Swimmers to vie for places on World Championship team

Following an invitation from FINA, the Uganda Swimming Federation will send a team of Ugandan swimmers to the 16th FINA World Championship due in Kazan, Russia due July 24-August 9.

Following an invitation from FINA, the Uganda Swimming Federation will send a team of Ugandan swimmers to the 16th FINA World Championship due in Kazan, Russia due July 24-August 9.


In order to select a team for the same, the USF will conduct a National Time Trials at Gems Cambridge International School, on Sunday.

In 2013 at the 15th World Championships held in Barcelona, Spain Uganda was represented by UK based Jamila Lunkuse, who swam in the women's 100 meters Breast Stroke and 100 meters freestyle events.

Joshua Ekirikubinza, swam in the men's 50 meter freestyle and 50 meter breastroke, with Arnold Kisulo, making his debut at the event, in the men's 50 meter Backstroke and Freestyle events.

Last year Uganda was represented by the same swimmers at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), as seniors, while UK based Kimberly Hind Mbabazi and Jethro Ssengonzi represented as juniors in the short course pool (25m) event that attracted more than 800 athletes from 171 countries.

The weekend trials will have events in the 50 and100m freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly heats as well as the 200m Individual Medley and 400m freestyle races.

Competitors will pay sh3, 000 per event while spectators will pay sh5, 000.
