Zone 4.2 Chess Championship resumes Wednesday

Uganda’s Ivy Amoko has vowed to continue her solid performance at the on-going Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship as she takes on Ehab Tasneem from Egypt on Wednesday at the City Oil offices in Kamwokya, Kampala.

Uganda’s Ivy Amoko has vowed to continue her solid performance at the on-going Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship as she takes on Ehab Tasneem from Egypt on Wednesday at the City Oil offices in Kamwokya, Kampala.
The Women Fide Master (WFM) Amoko drew with teammate Grace Kigeni during round four on Monday to stay at the top of the women’s table and unbeaten with 3.5 points.
The great performance in the opening four rounds makes Amoko believe she is capable of winning the international event ending over the weekend, April 25.
“Am not so scared of other competitors and this has given me the confidence that I will win the women’s title,” she said on Monday night after the round four victory.
Amoko ranked 1834 will now be up against lower ranked player Tasneem (1760) in the fifth round on Wednesday.
Meanwhile in the highly contested Open Category that has been dominated by only men, also has Uganda’s Fide Master (FM) Arthur Ssegwanyi.
The former national champion Ssegwanyi beat Egyptian’s International Master (IM) Hesham Abdelrahman in the fourth round to maintain the lead unbeaten.
Ssegwanyi will resume the title quest on Wednesday as he takes on fellow Ugandan IM Elijah Emojong in the fifth round at the same venue.
