It possibly wouldn't be wrong to conclude that the world is plunging into more secularism by the day. A vast number of people are increasingly idolizing some worldly items and persons, most especially the celebrities in a manner that can simply be referred to as a mockery of God and the entire Christian faith
One of the latest acts of mockery is by world renowned rapper, Kanye West. An online site christianpost.com reveals that three anonymous brothers have rewritten the first book of the bible, Genesis; replacing every mention of 'God' with 'Kanye'.
The book titled The Book of Yeezus is a nod to West's sixth studio album. "It was initially thought by some to be a hoax when it appeared for sale online earlier this month but one of its three authors has confirmed its authenticity. The book recently sparked a firestorm of criticism and one of the authors has spoken out publicly for the first time in an exclusive interview with The Christian Post.
The author, who chose not to reveal his identity, defended himself during a phone dialogue with the online Christian site recently; just days after critics took to social media to blast The Book of Yeezus as "offensive" and "blasphemous."
The book, which is described as a "Bible for the modern day," replaces every mention of God in the book of Genesis with the rapper's name but the author insists that it is not intended to mock Christianity. He said the purpose of the book is to "make people think," particularly during a time when more and more people are becoming obsessed with celebrity culture.
Part of the book's foreword reads that The Book of Yeezus is an interventionist art, coffee-table novelty, that will appeal to Kanye fans everywhere and those made curious by this enormous cultural phenomenon.
It should be noted that this is not the first time Kanye West is mocking God. Before contemplating to name his sixth studio album "I Am God," he in 2006 posed for Rolling Stone magazine wearing a crown of thorns and a sash across his chest. The article was titled "The Passion of Kanye West." The year before the singer was awarded a Grammy for his 2005 track, "Jesus Walks."
Defending the cover art, West said, "You want me to be great but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?" In February, while paying a visit to Rio de Janeiro, West and his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian posed for a photographer while imitating the Christ the Redeemer statue.
With all these blasphemous acts, one wouldn't be wrong to conclude the earth's final days; as documented in the book of Revelations are closer than they were ever imagined.
