The prestigious annual Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association gala is slated for May 2, 2015.


USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga disclosed this to the members during the Nile Special USPA monthly meeting at Imperial Royale Imperial Hotel in Kampala on Monday.

"I want to give you the good news that the USPA Gala will be held on May 2 at this same venue," Muwanga stated.

The awards night will see a total of over 50 awards given to  best teams and individual personalities for their performances in 2014.

Netball star Peace Proscovia is among those nominated for the USPA sports Personality of the year award, while the U-19 cricket team and the Netball She Cranes are nominees for the team of the year award.

USPA Votes Athletics team:


The national women athletics senior cross country team was voted Nile special sports personalty for the month of March by USPA members at the Imperial royale Hotel on Monday.

The athletes polled 545 points against fellow women volleyball team Vision Volleyball camp (470).

The athletics team won a bronze medal in the world cross country championship in China.

The members also commended Asaf Naten who won the MX 1 category in the second round of the National Motocross Championship in Garuga. He beat reigning MX 1 Champion Maxime Van Pee and former Champion Arthur Blick Jr.

Others commended included the crew of Duncan Mubiru and Musa Nsubuga, who won the first round of the National Rally Championship in Mbarara in 1 hour, 29 minutes and 58 seconds.

USPA signs Partnership with Brussels Airline


Meanwhile USPA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Brussels airline.

The MOU will see Brussels fly in International sports Press Association President, Gianni Merlo for the Nile Special USPA Gala next month.

USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga signed the partnership on behalf of USPA while the country manager for Uganda and south Sudan, Sabastiaan Spijkers signed on behalf of Brussels airline.

Bakabulindi appeals for professionalism


Sports minister Charles Bakabulindi has urged USPA members to stay professional while conducting their duties.

"I call upon all of you to stay professional while conducting your duties and restrain from being used by political opponents," Bakabulindi stated.

"Go for facts and seek comments from the people involved and no one will complain," Bakabulindi who doubles as USPA patron added.
