Parliament appointments committee Wednesday postponed the vetting of two ministerial nominees.

The committee chaired by Parliament Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, was scheduled to vet former Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Aronda Nyakairima who was appointed internal affairs minister and Dr. Erioda Tumwesigye (state minister for health in charge of general duties).

The duo was named ministers in a recent cabinet reshuffle. No date has been communicated when the nominees will appear for vetting.

A source told New Vision that the Speaker told the nominees that she had raised some issues with the appointing authority which were yet to be responded to.

Asked to comment about the committee’s decision to postpone the vetting, Aronda said “The chairperson of the committee said they will consider us in due course. The vetting lies entirely in the hands of the committee. We shall wait.”

The Office of the Clerk to Parliament would like to inform the public that today, Wednesday 26th June 2013, the Appointments Committee of the Parliament of Uganda in fulfillment of Rule 155 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, convened to consider the appointment of two ministerial nominees namely;
Hon. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima – Nominee for Minister of Internal Affairs
Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye – Nominee for Minister of State for Health

Following consultations within the meeting before the vetting process commenced, the Appointments Committee, chaired by the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, resolved to defer the vetting process of the two nominees pending further consultations with His Excellency the President of Uganda.

The new dates of the vetting process will be communicated in due course.
