Second-half substitute Kenneth Igema netted Express FC’ equalizer in the 86th minute to force a crucial draw against Electric FC and finish top of Group B, a result that saw them avoid fellow Ugandan side URA in the quarter finals of the CECAFA club championship.

Express will now play APR, the leaders of Group A in the first quarter final on Wednesday while URA takes on another Rwandese side Rayon Sport in the last quarter final on Thursday.

Al-Ahly Shandy faces El-Merreikh while Vital’O plays Ports in the other two quarter final games.

Ports will however play without their captain Kader Abass Abaneh who was red-carded for insulting referee Hashim Adam Ahmed.

Goal scorer Igema came in for Ssemanda Charles in the 57th minute in a match that saw Ugandan coach Sam Ssimbwa commanding the technical bench.

Djekaoussem Anatole converted a penalty for Electric with 17 minutes of normal time play left. If Express had lost this game, they were destined to play URA in the knockout stage.

In another game played simultaneously, Ports FC took an early lead against Rayon Sport early in the game but failed to consolidate their win and finally lost the game 4-1.

The win helped Rayon Sport advance to the next stage as Electric got ejected from the competition.

Electric FC from Chad was the only invited club in this tournament and becomes the first guest club to bow out of it at a group stage level in last five years.
