Vipers FC kept their unbeaten run this season intact after a 2-1 victory over Lweza FC in an enthralling Azam Premier League game at Buikwe ground.

They saw off a Lweza side that has now suffered back-to-back defeats, having previously lost at home to BUL FC last Friday.

The visitors who sit 10th in the league had hoped to overturn their misfortunes, but were instead subjected further to yet another disappointment.

Vipers, on their part, showed why they have not been beaten since the start of this campaign – exhibiting good composure and bossing ball possession for longer periods.

They defended strong, and in numbers, to keep the visiting side out. And theirs did not stop at defending – they equally threw their attackers forward and five minutes before half time, they drew first blood.

Miya Farouk who has been in fine goal-scoring form lately scored to put the hosts in control after he had earlier combined well with Joseph Mpande.

After restart, Lweza increased their tempo and a sense of urgency and piled plenty of pressure on their opponents in search of a breakthrough.

And the stress weighed heavily on the home defenders, more so when Mpande bundled John Kisakye in the box, and the referee awarding the visitors a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

Ddumba Sadala stepped up to the challenge at hand, and he made no mistake, by drilling home from the spot to level the score.

Moments after the equalizer, Vipers’ coach Richard Wasswa bellowed instructions to his players to up their game, despite the visitors looking more resilient.

They managed to hold out the hosts, but could only do so for as far as the dying minutes when Farouk struck again.

Six minutes from the final whistle, he collected a cross from substitute Mutyamba Sulaiman to head in past goalkeeper Julius Seguya who had replaced Sowedi Salim at the beginning of the second half.

Late pressure from the visitors yielded nothing and they had to settle for a frustrating second defeat in a row.
