Several questions remain unanswered regarding what still appears mysterious circumstances under which local artiste Emmanuel Mayanja, aka, AK47 died after he reportdely fell in the restrooms at Dejavu Bar and Lounge in Kansanga, a city suburb.

The deceased, a dancehall artiste, was a young bother of popular musicians: Jose Chameleone (Joseph Mayanja), Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso and Douglas Seguya aka Weasel TV.

By Wednesday, AK47’s family and friends were still pondering questions such as:

  • If AK47 fell on his back, why were his lips swollen?
  • Why did the bouncer, who reportedly was in the toilet, leave hastily instead of helping the man  who had reportedly fallen there?
  • Why did the bar manager (Joseph Kisenyi) take long to respond to the emergency?
  • Why did Kisenyi order for an immediate clean up of the spot where AK47 reportedly fell?

On Tuesday, Kabalagala divisional Police commander, Francis Chemusto, wondered why the case was not reported to the Police by the bar management or revellers, yet the police station is just 200 metres away.

Chemusto also said he did not know who rushed the deceased to Nsambya Hospital where he was immediately pronounced dead.

In an effort to seek answers to these questions, the Police Wednesday said the hunt is on for the cleaner, Milton Mumbere, who was near the spot where AK47 fell on the fateful night.

Mumbere had in different press interviews narrated the incident and the interventions by his employers.

The Police believes Mumbere, who is expected to record a statement, could help them find answers to the unanswered questions.

“We are looking for Mumbere. He did not report to work yesterday (Tuesday) and he has no phone,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said.

By press time, the postmortem report was yet to be released although preliminary reports indicate the deceased sustained a wound on the head.

“I was seated near the toilet when I heard a thud before a bouncer emerged out of the urinals. He said AK47 had fallen.
I called the manager, but Jeff came to the toilet followed by musician Diamond Oscar and they found AK47 lying unconscious on his back.”

Jeff Kiwanuka is said to be one of the owners of Dejavu Bar and the founder of Team No Sleep music group to which AK47 was a member together with Oscar.

Detectives who examined the body at Nsambya reported that there were scratches and bruises on the singer’s body. This raised suspicion as to whether he could have been involved in a fight before he died.
