The outgoing gender, labour and social development minister, John Nasasira, has urged his successors to work towards improving the visibility of the ministry.

“This is a very pivotal ministry in the development of the nation since it tackles the human resource from the lowest level; children, youth, workers, elderly and people with disabilities,” said Nasasira.

The minister made the remarks at a hand over ceremony at the ministry headquarters in Kampala. Nasasira who was transferred to ICT ministry in recent reshuffle handed over Mary Karooro Okurut.

According to Nasasira, the public’s perception about the ministry is bad yet it’s comprised of about ten departments and four state ministers.

Nasasira however noted that although he has had a short-lived appointment at the ministry, a number of strides had been made and he was optimistic that the new team will take up the set plans and strategies to move the ministry forward.

“The ministry has to come up and take its rightful position in the country in order to justify its share of the budget,” Nasasira advised.

Karooro pledged her commitment to her new assignment.

“I am very willing and ready to learn from the technical team in this ministry and also ensure its mandate is felt everywhere in the community,” she said.

Pius Bigirimana who was moved from the Office of the Prime Minister to gender ministry as the Permanent Secretary urged his new team to accord him the necessary support and promised to perform as required.

Bigirimana swapped positions with Christine Guwatude Kintu.
