SC Villa head coach Sam Ssimbwa has turned down his Azam FC counterpart George Nsimbe’s call to deputise him at the Tanzanian club.

Nsimbe has been appointed interim coach for Tanzania league champions Azam FC replacing Cameroonian coach Joseph Omog. Nsimbe had opted for his fellow countryman Ssimbwa to deputise him.

“I know it comes with good money. $5000 (about sh15m) is good money but how can I start carrying around cones for Nsimbe? It is like disrespecting myself,” the flamboyant Buganda prince joked about Nsimbe’s idea.

Ssimbwa, 48, has coached 16 teams now including the Somali national football team, all the three traditional Ugandan clubs, Rwanda’s ATRACO, Police FC and Sofapaka (Kenya) among other clubs and he openly brags that he is rich enough to rush for coaching jobs now.

The U-23 national football team assistant coach Frank Video Anyau was seen pleading with Ssimbwa to connect him for the job.

Sources close to Ssimbwa have instead revealed his interest to return to Ugandan league champions KCCA FC for the third time. Ssimbwa was at KCCA in 2002 and 2009.

Ssimbwa could only joke about the link with KCCA when contacted for comment but the source said that he is being influenced by better working conditions at the institution club where he will be assured of his paycheque.

Ssimbwa sometimes goes for months without a salary at Villa Park because the club depends on the pockets of club president Ben Immanuel Misagga or pockets of selected fans and officials.

Villa recruited Ssimbwa last October with a task for him to turn their players into professional materials by end of this month.
