Vipers beat Sadolin Paints at Bugembe to move within touching distance of the Azam Premier League leaders.
A lone goal from former Cranes player Vincent Kayizzi helped Vipers climb from third to second place with 38 points from 16 games.
SC Villa are table leaders of the 16-team league with 39 points.
Vipers coach Edward Golola relished his side’s crucial away victory.
“It’s unbelievable for us to get three points here because most of the players' attitude was low and the controversy going on in the league cost us.
“We hope to put back our players into better moods to play since everything is coming in order,” he said.
Meanwhile at Namboole, Sports Club Victoria University registered yet another defeat in two games straight after being beaten 0-1 by Kira Young courtesy of a Patrick Kaddu strike.
In Bombo, army side Simba suffered a 0-1 defeat to Police while Express beat Entebbe 1-0 on their travel.
At Wankulukuku, visitors BUL defeated Lweza 3-2 in an enthralling encounter.
