A new farmers’ Cooperative society was yesterday opened in Mpigi district, to provide financially and technical skills to farmers.

Kalagala Nkozi farmers’ Cooperative Society will also provide animal feeds, modern agriculture and veterinary services to its members, at affordable prices.

The cooperative society is mainly focusing on poultry.
So far, it has about 100 members.

While officially opening the cooperative society offices, the former Presidential candidate Dr. Abedi Bwanika urged local residents to always yearn for a better future through working hard.

“Always widen your income base through engaging in money generating activities. Don’t expect to get free money from Government. Set up a small income project at your home,” he advised them.

He also told them to only ask Government for social services like roads, better health services, education but not food.
It is through forming cooperative societies, Bwanika said that Ugandan farmers will be able to have a widened market for their products.

This week, the senior Presidential advisor on security and defence Gen.  Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh also urged farmers in Kayunga district to form cooperative societies, if they are to get out of poverty.

Yusuf Nsibambi, a city lawyer, who is also the patron of the cooperative society pledged to construct a private hospital, in the district.

This after the area MPs Kenneth Kiyingi Bbosa and Sarah Temulanda applauded him for extending electric powers from Nkozi University to villages.
