WOMEN defending champions KCCA Leopards soared to the top of the Airtel National Basketball League log with one-sided 106-16 victory over Nabisunsa YMCA court, Wandegeya.
Hilda Naigaga led the way for the Leopards with 20 points as they demolished the students and chipped in with two assists and six rebounds.
Maimula Nabosa who bagged eight points and 8 rebounds was the only performer of note for Nabisunsa.
The win saw Leopards leapfrog UCU Lady Canons atop the table by two points having played a game more. Leopards’ point guard Flavia Oketcho said there is more to polish with the championship chasing team.
“We got a big margin win but you can’t measure your strength against such teams. But I still believe we have a lot to polish if we are to defend our title,” Oketcho explained.
Meanwhile, in the men’s game, UCU Canons recorvered from a dull start against Heaters 76-59 in the second game of the day. Cyrus Kiviiri plundered a game high 25 points to guide the Canons to their fifth successive win.
The on-form shooting guard went on and explained how his side is bonding and gradually improving.
“We now know each other and that is what wins games, the good coordination. I see a better and competitive side by the end of regular season,” Kiviri pointed out.
