The nursing fraternity has been challenged to exercise high professional ethics and integrity while executing their duty of saving lives.

Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, the state minister for higher education, said nursing is a noble profession, which is in great demand nationally and internationally and those who choose it should be patriotic.

“I encourage you to play a positive role in our health centres by upholding the virtues, ethics and integrity of your noble profession and saving our people’s lives,” Muyingo said.

He was officiating at the second graduation ceremony for Kampala University School of Nursing at Mutundwe campus on Friday, where 164 graduands were awarded certificates in nursing.

Prof. Badru Kateregga, the vice-chancellor of the university, said the high cost of training nurses is crippling private nursing institutions in Uganda.

He appealed to the Government to support private health training institutions to meet the cost of training nurses.

Muyingo promised to recommend the institution for financial and material resources from both the Government and the donor community.
