Swimmers excel at Junior Swimming Championships

USPA swimmer of the year 2012 Tendo Mukalazi and Gloria Muzito, emerged the best overall in the 10 years and under category

USPA swimmer of the year 2012 Tendo Mukalazi and Gloria Muzito, emerged the best overall in the 10 years and under category as Uganda swimmers from the Dolphins swimming club won the overall trophy at the Kenya Junior Swimming Championships that ended on Sunday in Nairobi.

Selina Katumba was Uganda’s other top performer when she collected 5 Gold in all her 9 years and under-category races. She won in the 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, and 25m freestyle heats.

On top of the individual accolades, Tendo, Muzito, Katumba and Kirabo Namutebi broke a total of eight championship records at the annual championship for the 6-12 year olds.

Namutebi on her part won 2 Gold and two Silver while by Joyce Muzito bagged two silver and three bronze.

Samora Lumonya grabbed silver in the 25m freestyle while Raphael Sine and Lionel Rezida got bronze each in the 25m backstroke and butterfly events respectively, for a total medal tally of 37.

Dolphins also won Gold Medals in different age categories in the medley and free relay events in the 7 years girls and boys, 8 years boys, and 9 years boys’ categories to win the first runners up girls and boys and the overall winners’ trophy. 

The annual event attracts swimmers from over twenty clubs in East Africa.
