UK Defense Academy students meet Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has met a delegation of students of the Royal College of Defense Academy of the United Kingdom.

STATE HOUSE, Entebbe - President Yoweri Museveni has met a delegation of students of the Royal College of Defense Academy of the United Kingdom who paid a courtesy call on him at State House Entebbe.

The delegation has been on a one-week study tour in Uganda and was led by the Senior Directing Staff of the Academy Jeremy Jarvis CBE and was also accompanied by the Deputy High Commissioner of Britain to Uganda Ambassador Mary Shockledge.

The group is on a study tour of three African countries, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia. Some of the UPDF officers have been students of the UK Defense Academy.

President Museveni and his guests discussed various historical political and economic issues on the African continent in general and Uganda in particular, delving mainly on the economic situation of the country.

The President told the students that having pacified the whole country through a lot of sacrifice, the NRM government is now embarking on developing the infrastructure, especially in priority areas of energy, industrialization, adding value to raw materials, building roads and also railway lines of the standard gauge, human resource development and scientific research and innovations.

He informed them that the current growth of the country's economy is at 6.5 % with inadequate electricity, adding that once the energy sector is fully developed, the economic growth will somersault in double digits.

On oil resources, Museveni told his guests that the proceeds will help in building durable economy.

He also informed members of the delegation that another priority area is markets and that is why leaders in the region are working on the federation of East Africa Community.

The leader of the delegation, Jeremy Jarvis commended the Ugandan leader for his enlightening, educative and inspiring lecture.

He, on behalf of the delegation, thanked the government and the people of Uganda for the warm hospitality accorded to them during their memorable one week stay in the country.
