KAVC and Nemostars volleyball clubs must raise at least $74,000 (about sh213m) in five weeks to represent Uganda at the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) Men’s Club Championships due in Tunisia in March.

Uganda Volleyball Federation has nominated league winners KAVC and national Club Championships winners Nemostars to represent the country in the annual event. But other than their optimism, the two sides are not certain of participation due to their poor financial status.

Although he was excited about the third consecutive year to represent the country at a CAVB competition, Nemostars patron Neko Muduse-Ojala told www.uvbf.org that he requires $37,000 (about sh106m) for a squad of 18 players and officials to make the trip.

“For a delegation of 18 people, the cost comes to about $37,000 player allowances. We don’t have money now but Nemo will go, so help me God,” Muduse-Ojala said.

KAVC will require the same amount for the same size of delegation to travel for the championship but have realised only $1000 (about sh2.8m), the cash prize courtesy of the league sponsors NSSF.

The competition was earlier set for Morocco but CAVB last week announced that Tunisia will organise the 2015 Championship slated for March 5 in Sousse.

The winner will represent Africa at the 2015 Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil, May 5.
