Golola, Tugume fight over money

The much anticipated kickboxing match between two Ugandan giants Titus Tugume and Moses Golola may not take place.

The meeting, between the two regional kick boxing sensations, was slated for June 28 at Kyadondo Rugby grounds, but Tugume has revealed he might not honour the fight due to what he called ‘contractual disagreements’. “The promoter has not yet agreed on the figure I am demanding and if this is not done, I will not be in the ring,” Tugume said.

Tugume said he wants the promoter to first settle the hotel bills he owes Great Land Hotel Gaba Road and sh15m he was supposed to be given for the fight against Hungarian Sandor Szabo in Mbarara.

The Mbarara fight was organised by Tugume’s promoter Benon Kasenene and up to now Tugume’s prize money remains unpaid.

Tugume says his pleas were ignored by Kasenene and now that there is a different promoter for the fight, he will only honour the June meeting with Golola if his demands are settled.

Tugume’s utterances come barely a week after the fight promoter Hakim Ssembatya announced the fight date with the local kickboxing federation sanctioning the fight.

According to the new promoter Ssembatya, the two fighters were expected to sign the contracts this week.

Golola is fresh from a unanimous decision victory over Hungarian Betya Istavan while Tugume’s last fight against Hungarian Sandor Szabo was also won on a majority points decision.
