Kawempe Moslem regained their might in the local schools’ girls’ football after beating holders St. Mary’s Kitende 1-0 to win the National Ball games football title in a tense final played at Mbarara High.

A second half header by diminutive Zamin Masunge ensured Kawempe, not only avenged the 2-1 loss to Kitende in last year’s final in Fort Portal, but also became the first Uganda side to win the East African championship and the national title consecutively.

The regional champions had eliminated strong Janan SS in the semi-final while Kitende had registered a 7-0 semi- final win over surprise semi finalists Mbale Comprehensive.

“We are very privileged to win this tournament and we hope to do well in the regional games come September in Lila,” Said Kawempe’s Ayub Karfan.

The girls football final marked the climax of the one week Ball games that have been hosted by Mbarara High School, with an official closing ceremony presided over by Mbarara Municipality mayor Wilson Tumwine, who hailed the participants for the good discipline exhibited for the one week they had spent in Mbarara.

In other disciplines, Kibuli SS also came back to the top after seeing off a stiff Rubiri SS resistance with a calm 73-60 win. Trevor Aaron Ojo made the highest game score of 15 points, while Daniel Mbabazi made 8 and eventual MVP Andrew Geng made 9.
Rubiri’s Elvis Mutebi however top scored with 19 point in a losing effort.

St. Mary’s Kitende won their first ever national girls basketball title after humiliating holders and record champions Nabisunsa 55-18, to also avenge the 82-81 loss to Nabisunsa in last year’s final in Fort Portal.

In Rugby, defending champions Ntare School was relegated to third place with St. Mary’s Kisubi claiming the trophy after beating new comers Pope John Paul II 21-7 in the final.

Ntare beat rivals Mbarara High 17-10 for third place.
SMACK and Namagunga won the boys’ and girls’ Hockey titles respectively.

All the best four teams in each category will represent Uganda at the coming FEASSSA games in Lira.
