It is absolute fun watching kids entertain and perform than most performing adults around town. Parents who took their kids to the My Kid Is a Superstar event, held at Hotel Africana last Sunday, can readily attest to that.

Fine, one might say these parents were just excited to see their tots pull off their talents, maybe because they had rehearsed with them.

But the sight of some parents looking awe-struck and shocked at their children pulling stunts they had not seen before, accentuates the fact that today’s kids are amazing.

So innocent and enthusiastic with their performances, the over 2,800 kids who managed to make it to the grounds took to the stage and participated in different activities like dancing, modeling, acrobatics, skating and comedy skits.

Little girls and boys from different schools did the catwalks like they were attempting to beat American model Naomi Campbell at her game, they danced to local and Jamaican dance hall music, and they acted and recited poems like they had been at it for ages.

Some joyous mothers got teary as some fathers flashed wide grins. For those who wanted to take on their peers for the grand prize of being  flown to Disney Land in USA; they went through auditions. The finale for this bit will be held on May 19, to get the final four who will  be taken to Disney Land (all expenses paid).

The judges were Buganda’s Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo, Bobi Wine’s wife Barbie, Vision Group’s Toto Magazine Editor Aunt Jovita, Karitas Karisimbi and Coco Finger among others. They also helped the kids go through the various activities. Kats, the emcee of the day, summoned

Coco Finger to entertain the crowds. He was later to be swamped by several kids on stage, in a dance and sing-along do.

“We did not expect so many superstar kids like this. But we are glad parents have seen certain things they had not know about their kids,” said Joseph Masembe, the brain behind the My Kid is a Superstar brand.
