What do you think of the new trend of women not wearing underwear with certain outfits? Have you noticed any woman moving out in public without underwear? It is becoming a trend for many girls to go panty-less or commando as it is popularly referred to. Below is the story of Brenda, an employed university graduate, who does not wear underwear.
I enjoy sleeping and running around in the nude. I find that not wearing undies is comfortable and sexy. I chose to do away with panties in 2006 after I joined Makerere University. When I joined university, I had to maintain good-looking well manicured nails, so I decided to pay a woman to wash my clothes.
I would also give her my undies to wash. However, after sometime, I realised that it was rude to give someone my undies to wash. However, I could not wash them because I was not ready to spend all my pocket money on daily manicures. After I had worn all my clean undies and did not have any more to wear, I decided to go commando to the lecture room and it seemed no one realised or even paid attention. So, I did it the following day, the day after, the whole week and I have never looked back.
I am only forced to wear undies when I am in my periods. When I started clubbing, I met many girls who went out without underwear. Many girls say they hate the discomfort caused by underwear. Girls also say they look sexier in their tight dresses without visible panty-lines.
Even in the corporate world, I meet women who have decided to do away with underwear. I am not sure if my parents know that I do not do undies, but my siblings are aware and are okay with it. I do not wish for my parents to find out because they would be disappointed and would discourage me from doing it. I come from a Christian family and was raised by both parents. I also attended Christian founded schools.
Why you need underwear
Women who do not wear panties say they feel more comfortable without them. However, women can also stay comfortable in properly fitting underwear of the right style. Underwear should be worn because it keeps outer-garments from getting dirty, shapes the body and provides support for certain body parts.
If you are not wearing underwear, your trousers should be washed after every wear. (This also means you should be wearing a fresh pair of underwear each day.) Underwear is also necessary for protection. Clothes usually contain dyes that can be absorbed into the private parts, leading to irritation or infections.
Dr. Moses Mpaire of Good Care Clinic in Nakulabye, says women who do not put on underwear risk contracting bacterial and fungal infections or even genital warts. Underwear can also be sexy. The right pair of underwear can be quite a turn-on for men. Many men would rather their partner walked around the house with a pair of briefs on than completely naked.
Annet Nandujja, a senga on Bukedde TV, says: “Most of the women who have embraced this bad trend are searching for love. There is a Kiganda saying that Atunda ayoleesa, amazza mangu (meaning the seller who displays his goods, sells off quickly).”
However, Nandujja cautions that displaying one’s body will only earn one shame and disrespect. “A young woman who appears in the newspaper with no knickers may not know the damage she is causing her reputation. A serious man would not commit to a girl who does not put on underwear.”
Nandujja advises women to respect their bodies, adding that in the past, women used to wear three pieces of cloth (bikoyi) under their gomesi to maintain their modesty.
Would you marry a woman who goes commando?
Raymond Kintu, self-employed: Trends come and go and we always follow them. I, too, have followed some. But trends do not change the inner person. So, I would have no problem with such a woman. I also think it is sexy.
Mark Ssebugwawo, businessman in Katwe: If I found out that my daughter was moving around naked, I would disown her because she would have become an embarrassment to me and the society. Every woman should be decent in order to be respected.
Paul Bukooli, university student: That trend is weird. If I met a woman and she is not wearing underwear, there is no way I would consider her for marriage. If we are already dating, I would try to make her change her ways. But if I failed to make her change her ways, I would let her be because I love her. But going commando is not cool and knickers look good on the body.
Joseph Mulondo, real estate developer: Unfortunately, trends are here to be followed. However, I would not encourage my wife or sister to move around with no underwear. A decent woman should preserve her body for only her man. Why display everything?
Victor Mugwanya, artist: I find it sexy whenever I see a woman walking without her knickers on, especially if she is in high heels. I cannot lie to you, such a woman is a feast to many men’s eyes. There is nothing wrong with a woman embracing new fashion trends, even if it means walking naked.”
Richard Tuwangye, comedian: I do not see myself marrying a woman who goes without underwear. Every woman should know when to have her underwear on and off. Women who go without underwear are simpleminded and get men who are simple-minded. I am not in the category of simple-minded men.
