The StarTimes Falcons know it will take more than their new sponsor’s money to return to the top of the National Basketball League (NBL).

That’s why club president Friday Kagooro stressed that the next item on the agenda is to streamline the team’s power structure.

Kagooro made the revelation during Wednesday’s official unveiling of the mega partnership with digital pay TV StarTimes that could see the Falcons receive as much as sh250m over the next three years.

The deal, which will be renewable after the first year, has put the Falcons in a position that left Kagooro admitting, “We can comfortably
say we have the money”.

But Kagooro, like anyone who has followed the rise of the reigning two-time NBL champions City Oilers, knows money is just one ingredient in the formula of success.

That’s why he added, “All we need now is to streamline the management of the club”.

Falcons’ talisman Stephen Omony, who also attended the unveiling and addressed the press, offered a different take on the importance of strengthening the club’s power fabric.

“People should remember that it was the Falcons who first showed the value of a well-run club back then,” said Omony.

He added: “Before City Oil came along the Falcons showed good management.”

Still, over the last five years the Falcons have been plagued by constant upheaval at management level, a direct result of the power vacuum created by the demise of club founder John Simbwa.

But with financial stability on the way, the most successful club in the NBL are now promising to re-establish hierarchical stability.
