Brian Majwega is determined to embarrass his former side KCCA when the Uganda league champions battle Tanzania champions Azam today in the Mapinduzi Cup.

The Cranes midfielder joined Azam late last year after Azam reportedly paid KCCA FC US$50,000 (sh137m) and another US$20,000 (sh55m) to the player as a sign-on fee.

Majwega followed ex-coach George ‘Best’ Nsimbe who also joined Azam as assistant coach last month.

He said: “Azam bought me to do a job. There will be no friendship. I want to show Azam that I was worth the money they paid for my services.”

Nsimbe is equally fired up for their first Group B fixture. “I have a clear picture of how KCCA will play. I groomed their current coach [Abdallah Mubiru] and know how they will approach this game. I will beat them,” Nsimbe stated.

KCCA beat Azam 3-2 in the semi-fi nals of the same competition last year and Mubiru sounded confident of replicating the result this time.

“Any good coach must be able to beat the very best. Although I am new in my position, I should be able to guide KCCA to good results in this tournament,” Mubiru stated.

It will be interesting to see how KCCA perform today having arrived on Thursday after travelling for four days by road from Kampala.

KCCA will play without injured players Tom Matsiko and Derrick Nsibambi. The winner of the tournament pockets $10,000 (sh27m).
