THE crew of John Bosco Nkumbi and Joseph Mugerwa in a Suzuki Escudo, won the third round of the national 4x4 championship at FIDUGA farm Nsimbe Estate on Sunday to retain the national crown.
Nkumbi posted seven minutes and 48 seconds to beat rival and challenger Shemmy Senkatuuka and son George Senkatuuka, in a Toyota Land Cruiser, who finished third after posting a time of eight minutes.
Nkumbi (13 points) went into the final round on Sunday trailing Senkatuka by two points. However, he opted to take all risks in a bid to defend his title.
“I knew the terrain was tough but I powered the machine to maximum knowing that I will get a penalty if I knocked the tape but it worked,” Nkumbi stated after receiving his crown.
“I posted the fastest time with a penalty of 10 seconds and still stayed on top. I will continue training so that I can win it next year too,” an elated Nkumbi added.
Senkatuuka, who missed the title by a point, vowed to come back next year with a different strategy. “We were almost there but it was their luck and we congratulate them, but we will be back next year,” Senkatuuka stated.
Enduro Club president Livingstone Mpagi thanked all participants for the dedication and urged them to bring their friends into the sport.
