The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) is set to usher in a new leadership today that experts believe will end the wrangles that have riddled the sport in the last seven years.

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) is set to usher in a new leadership today that experts believe will end the wrangles that have riddled the sport in the last seven years.
Unlike the previous assemblies that often ended in chaos, the assembly at the MTN Arena at Lugogo this morning is expected to institue a lasting solution acceptable to the respective factions.
Godfrey Nyakana, who will battle Lukanga Boxing Club chairman Sam Lukanga for UBF’s Presidency, pointed yesterday that: “I fancy my chances in the elections. I am looking at whoever is contesting as a family member and not as a contestant or opposition member.”
Ben Ggulu Wasajja is likely to be unanimously elected as the federation’s treasurer as there is no one opposing him.
Former general secretary David Kyambadde will battle Sam Barigo, who served in the office before Nyakana’s regime was thrown out.
Both candidates campaigned for the same office before but Kyambadde bitterly withdrew when his supporters boycotted the exercise in 2011.
“The new constitution needs people with sufficient knowledge to understand it. If the fraternity needs a secretary to deliver them to the Promised Land, I am that person because I participated in the constitution making,” Kyambadde said yesterday.
