The Pakistan High Commissioner to Kenya has hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his tireless efforts in maintaining peace and stability across the great lakes region.

“I commend president Museveni and the Ugandan people for the tireless efforts in establishing security, stability, peace and development in Uganda as well as their participation in the peace process in Somalia, South Sudan and Congo in addition to flushing the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels out of Uganda”, Rafi Siddique said.

He made the remarks in a speech read for him by the newly elected chairman of the Pakistan Association of Uganda sheikh Rashid Ahmad; during an annual general meeting at Aero beach Entebbe over the weekend, April 20th, 2013.

The function which was graced by the Consul General at Pakistan Consulate Dr. Boney Katatumba saw the election of Rasheed Ahmad as chairman of the Pakistan association here, deputized by both Naeem Chopra and Iftikhar Sikander.

Others included Mahmood Haroon as General Secretary, Ijaz Jatala as Joint secretary and Zeeshan Arshad and Gulam Rabani as treasurer and Information secretary respectively.

Siddique said Somalia has registered greater achievements as the pacification of Mogadishu has expanded to south central and the troops are able to provide security leading to the functioning of the State.

Uganda and Burundi were the first countries under African Union to send troops to lawless Somalia before Djibouti, Sierra Leon and Kenya joined.

He said the region has registered significant achievement since 2007 when Uganda sacrificed its soldiers and deployed troops in the war-ravaged Somalia.
The chairman of Pakistan association of Uganda, Rasheed Ahmad said the Pakistan community in Uganda is looking forward to continued collaboration with Ugandans to enhance trade relations between both countries.

He said working relations between Uganda and Pakistan have facilitated impressive development programmes in both countries and also expanded the trade sector.

“We appreciate the understanding, support and corporation Ugandans have rendered to us. I only urge Ugandans to use the prevailing peace and relations to export more goods to Pakistan” Ahmed said.

He pledged continued corporation and support of the Pakistan people especially in agricultural, health, business, tourism and technical sectors.
