OVER 800 runners will participate in the annual ISU/Stanbic family fun run due on April 28 at the ISU campus in Lubowa.

The 12th edition of the annual charity race will not only help raise money for creating awareness and free testing of breast cancer among women but will also help in building a permanent home for rescued animals.

Rahab Uganda will also benefit from the funds to help street kids in vocational training. The ISU scholarship program is the other beneficiary.

Addressing a pre-race press conference at the campus, Stanbic communications consultant Pamela Opoka said the bank will sponsor over 300 runners and four teams in the race that is expected to be flagged off by Olympic Gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich.

“We are proud to be associated with the event which resonates well with our mission-transforming lives for a better Uganda. It also gives us an opportunity to partner with our clients in the areas that we operate in,” Pamela said.

She believes the event is unique since all the beneficiaries are chosen from the students and parents and communities who all get involved in the race.

Bert Onsia the technical director of the race said the 10km and 5km races will start at 8.15am and advised the runners to take enough water before and during the race and to avoid energy drinks before the race.

Christopher Maggio the head of school said the race had raised over sh10m in the past five years and promised to “Build as much interest as we can to increase participation and raise more funds to help the needy”

The beneficiaries were represented at the press conference by Hadassah Were (Rahab), Dr. Alex Mugisa (USPCA) and Nayer Amrita (Uganda Breast Cancer awareness).

The event is sponsored by Stanbic, New Vision, MTN, Coca Cola (Dasani water), AON, Serena Lake Victoria resort, Ericksson and Golf course hotel.
