MUHAMMAD Nsereko scored one goal and set up Hassan Tindyebwa for the second as the Parliament of Uganda team beat Tanzania’s outfit 2-1 in the East African Parliamentary Games football final.

The match was held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Joshua Nassari pulled one back for the Tanzanian side after the break.

The win earned Uganda’s team the trophy for the fourth time.

Uganda’s team went in attack right from the first whistle with Nsereko and Odonga Otto in the hunt for goals. But the home team’s defence led by Adam Malima stood firm.

Tanzania’s goalkeeper Iddi Azzan also prevented Uganda from scoring with a number of brilliant saves. He foiled Otto’s goal bound shot in the 6th minute.

But three minutes later, Nsereko beat the defence to give his side the lead.

The Tanzanian team returned strongly after interval, making a series of raids on Uganda’s goal.

Later, a counter attack saw Nsereko set up Tindyebwa for the second goal.

The introduction of Mark Tanza for Tanzania changed the tempo of the game with Yusuf Gogo, Yona Kirumbi and Joshua Nassari combining well upfront.

The plan paid off as Nassari scored the team’s consolation goal.

The Parliament of Kenya team finished third overall after the East African Legislative Assembly failed to field a team.

Nsereko earned the golden boot after scoring four goals while the fair play and most disciplined team awards went to the Burundi team.

Elsewhere, Tanzania won the women’s and men’s tug of war and the women’s athletics titles at the prize giving ceremony.

Kenya walked away with the men’s athletics title.
