OLYMPIAN Jamila Lunkuse leads a sixteen man Uganda team to the zone 3 and 4 swimming championship, at the 90 days legacy swimming pool in Lusaka, April 24-28 on Saturday.

Buganda princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo is also on the team that is comprised of five boys and eleven girls. Lunkuse will captain the girls while Christopher Prinsloo will lead the boys.

The team coached by Tonnie Kasujja is looking to bettering their five medal haul from the same championship held in Mozambique last year.

Sisters Anthea and Anne Mudanye, brothers Jesse and Jethro Sengozi and their sister Rebecca Sengonzi will lead Uganda’s medal hunt at the annual championship together with experienced Elisha Ekirikubinza and Christopher Prinsloo.

The rest on team Uganda include Mutesi De Torrette, Edith Burton, Maya Homsy King, Isabelle Standen, Hezekiah Owour, Vianney Lusimbo, and Luke Gallager.

At last year’s championship held in Mozambique Jamila Lunkuse was Uganda’s best swimmer in the breaststroke with 1 gold (100m), 1 silver (200m) and 1 bronze (50m).

Arnold Kisulo (100m B/F bronze) and twelve year old Behnesen Tara (50m breast-bronze) were the other podium finishers.

In 2011 Uganda collected 4 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronze from the same championship held in Botswana with Lunkuse (5 medals) and Arnold Kisulo (5 medals) as the best swimmers.

Uganda finished seventh out of eleven countries then.
