A 20-year-old man has jumped to death from the 7th floor of Mabirizi Complex along Kampala Road in the city centre.

Police identified the man as Deus Kabikire a resident of Katooke, Wakiso district. The man police said left behind two suicide notes, stating that he had chosen to join his parents due to incessant calls by their spirits which keep appearing to him in the nights.

“We are treating it as a case of suspected suicide,” Kampala police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said adding that that body had been transferred to the city mortuary for postmortem. The incident is said to have occurred at about midday.

The man is said to have walked into Mabirizi complex near the Kampala main central police station and the constitutional square and ascended to the sixth floor– the top most of the building before flinging himself down through a window.

Prior he said to have flung down a copy of a vernacular newspaper, followed by his wallet before signaling to boda boda riders at a nearby stage to move away. “He then put on his sunglasses and then tied a bandana before leaping to his death,” a boda boda cyclist who witnessed the incident narrated.

His death was frightening as he landed on pointed spikes of a fence of a transformer that pierced through his body, leaving him dangling. The body was later removed by the police as crowds of terrified on lookers watched, chocking traffic on the section.
