KAMPALA - The Makerere University Business School (MUBS) guild race that began last week has finally come to an end with DP’s Pasquine Acaka emerging as the winner.
Acaka, the only female candidate in the race of five, amassed more than 50% of the votes cast in four polling stations at the university, in what some analysts have described as a revolutionary wave of ladies.
Her election to the university’s student leadership’s helm comes just weeks after Makerere University students elected a second female student in six years for a similar position.
The first female guild president in the history of MUBS garnered 1089 votes of the valid votes cast, followed by Hussein Mugisha (independent) who got 457 votes while NRM’s Achilles Atwebembere came third with 434 votes.
The others were Andrew Okello and Anthony Okot, both of FDC who scored 407 and 361, respectively.

Soon after declaring her winner, 22-year-old Acaka said her priority is to make various ministerial appointing in her cabinet, bringing the most competent people who will meet the needs of students, among other stakeholders of the university.
The self-proclaimed virtuous lady pledged to harmoniously work with the students, university administrators and political actors.
She attributed her victory to students who gave her all the necessary support.
“I did not think I would make it through but with God’s grace, I have managed to win,” said the jubilant president-elect.
The Electoral Commission chairman of the university, Arnold Kabeho declared 10 votes invalid.
