With a sh10m kitty up for grabs, professional golfers cannot wait for the Paulo Ngorogoza Memorial Golf Tournament to start at the new Garuga Golf Club in Kanungu.

Organised by Kabale Golf Club, the two-day tournament is due at the par-71 course in Kihiihi on December 12-13.

According to JB. Tumusiime the captain of the Kabale Golf Club the annual tournament is organized in memory of Ngorogoza one of the most enterprising Bakiga the area has ever produced. He is remembered for having encouraged the native people to startup businesses in other areas other than Kabale.

Rwandan professional golfers Emmanuel Ruterana and Ernest Ndayisenga have already confirmed to vie for the cash alongside all Ugandan professionals in the two-day tournament that will also witness the inauguration of the only privately owned 18-hole golf course in the country. Amateur golfers from across the country are also expected to grace the grand opening.

NeighboUring the Queen Elizabeth national park and the Kihiihi Airfield, the golf course is owned by businessman James Musinguzi Garuga who owns the Kihiihi Airfield, Kayonza Tea Factory and the Kigezi Highland Tea fields among other businesses in the area.

The par 71 course (7,189 yards) near the Uganda-DRC boarder is not built for the feint hearted and despite its interesting lay out, has water hazards that are 7 meters deep according to course designer Gad Musasizi.

Golfers from within and outside the country can access the golf course by air and by road. There are two daily flights to the area by Aerolink in the morning and afternoon from Entebbe, and after a round of golf one can relax at the neighboring Savanah Resort Hotel.
