Pirates secured their first win in four matches with a 12-7 win over hosts Toyota Buffaloes in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday.

First half tries by Denis Etuket and Dan Chanowira plus a conversion were enough to sail Pirates through in a tight game played on a muddy turf.

After the game, Pirates captain Dan Chanowira promised better results in the coming fixtures.

“We are re-organising and we shall come with better results. Our opponents should not hurry to write us off the title,” he said.

Kevin Keremundu and Allan Okello scored for Buffaloes but their efforts were not enough to help their side recover.

They attributed their defeat to the loss of players to the national Sevens (7s) team preparing for the Africa Sevens tournament due next weekend in Zimbabwe.

Elsewhere, at Makerere, Ezee Money Rhinos suffered a big upset as they lost 7-13 to Makerere Impis at the Grave Yard ground.

At Legends, Kobs smashed Mutoni Warriors 32-5 with Michael Amolo scoring a hat-trick of tries and later being voted man of the match.

In Entebbe, Heathens felt the pain at the House of Pain, losing two points as they drew 10-10 with Entebbe Mongers.

This is the third time Heathens have failed to collect maximum points from Entebbe in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League.

Adrian Wasswa scored a try, a penalty and a conversion for Mongers while Asuman Mugerwa, Chris Lubanga and Joel Kimuli managed a try, a penalty and conversion, respectively, for Heathens.

Meanwhile in the ladies category, Thunderbirds had a 28-0 walkover against Black Panthers. The girls later played a friendly game (below).
