The Nnabagereka, Sylivia Nagginda has been lauded for fighting poverty and promoting human rights for the women and the girl child.

The Nnabagereka, Sylivia Nagginda has been lauded for fighting poverty and promoting human rights for the women and the girl child.

The founder of the Nnabagereka Development Foundation was  also praised for her involvement in education, health, and cultural issues.

 “She has played a major role in sensitizing and mobilizing the general population on issues of education, health, poverty eradication and the preservation of culture. She has also graciously supported and empowered marginalized groups including youth, women and persons with disabilities," the founder and chief executive officer of City Blue hotels, Jameel Verjee said.

On her part Nagginda urged the corporates to put more resources in the health and education of the youth to enable them become successful citizens and play a key role in the development of the country.

“By investing in the health, education, training and development of a young person, you are investing in the future of your organisation. These young people are the future consumers, future employees and employers,” Nagginda said.

She pointed out that the corporates should feel the burden of investing in education and the health of the youth to contribute to the economic growth of the country.

“We all must share the burden of growth and development of our country,” Nagginda said. 

The Nnabagereka made the remarks during the opening of Urban By City Blue, Kampala Hotel in Kampala.

She also appealed to the corporates to support charity organizations which are involved in improving the lives of the vulnerable in society.


“As we continue to encourage corporate investment in the future and development of our country, we should also acknowledge that supporting charities is a necessary investment – necessary for both the country and for the growth your organisation,” she stated.

She called upon the corporate class to instill values of integrity, honesty and transparency to the young people and mentor them.

She commended Verjee for taking risks and investing in Uganda and creating employment for the young people.

The ceremony was attended by corporates, ambassadors, high commissioners and finance minister, Maria Kiwanuka.
