Kizito nominated for KPL player of the year

Uganda Cranes midfielder Geoffrey Kizito has been nominated for the 2014 Kenyan premier league player of the year award.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Geoffrey Kizito has been nominated for the 2014 Kenyan premier league player of the year award.


The midfielder is on course to be named Kenya's football league top player in his debut season .He is the clear favourite after helping his club Gor Mahia FC win the Kenyan Premier League title in the just concluded season.

He is up against Osborne Monday (Tusker FC), Stephen Waruru (Ulinzi Stars) and Sofapaka's duo of Enock Agwanda and Antony Ndolo.

Kizito who was delighted to be on the list after just one season in the league, applauded his teammates for the achievement.

“It sounds so nice but also it has been team work for me to hold a special achievement like that,” he told the club website.

The former SC Villa and Express FC player joined Kenyan giants after his club in Vietnam was dissolved which left him clubless for a while.

The Kenyan giants handed him a one year deal that expired at the end of the season.

Kizito is also on the list of the nominees for the best Kenyan premier league midfielder alongside former SC Villa captain Antony Ndolo (Sofapaka FC), Brian Osumba (Tusker FC), Humphrey Mieno (AFC Leopards) and Geoffrey Kataka (Ushuru FC).

Sofapaka coach. Sam Timbe has also been nominated for the coach of the year award after guiding the Kenyan team to second place in the premier league in his maiden season.

Meanwhile, Cranes striker Dan Sserunkuuma was voted the top scorer after netting 16 goals for his side (Gor Mahia) Gor Mahia cruised to their second Kenya Premier League title in two yeaRS
