Sebei Sub Region last week started the second leg of the anti-Corruption campaign to mobilize communities to name and shame embezzlers of public funds and resources in Eastern Uganda.

The campaign was launched by ActionAid Uganda in partnership with civil society organizations in Kapchorwa, kween and Bukwo districts.

The anti-corruption caravan was organized under the theme “stop the silence; shame the corrupt; fame the good leaders”

While launching the Caravan, Actionaid Local Rights Programme Coordinator, Kapchorwa district, Aggrey Kibet said the 5 day-campaign was meant to mobilize citizens for collective action against corruption.

“We are helping the public to understand the dangers of corruption towards service delivery and welfare of the citizenry,” Kibet said.

He said Uganda can achieve equitable, quality and sustained service delivery if technical and political leaders put aside selfish interests to build a society in which all citizens claim fair share of national opportunities and resources.

Kibet said all the cases would be presented to relevant government authorities and institutions for action.

During the caravan, icons of integrity were identified by the public as part of the citizens’ efforts to reward and promote local champions in the fight against corruption.

Kibet called upon Ugandans to speak out on all forms of corruption in their households, communities and public offices without fear or favor.

The caravan covered neighbouring sub counties of Kiproron, Greek in Kween districts, Tulel, Kabei, Swam and climaxed with a mammoth rally in Bukwo district.

The rally was attended by Bukwo district leadership including the local council chairpersons, the Police and the Resident district Commissioner.

Mid this year, Actionaid held an anti-corruption caravan which traversed Kotido, Abim, Amuria, Katakwi, Soroti, Kumi, Bukedea and Kapchorwa in both East and North Eastern Uganda.

Others included Mbale, Tororo, Pallisa, Budaka, Namutumba and Iganda among others
