IGANGA - She lost her husband recently in a road accident but as fate would have it, her death followed barely 30 days later in a similar manner.
A speeding truck ferrying cement to a storeroom in Iganga town ran over the widow who had fallen off a motorcycle, and killed her instantly.
Sarah Namusobya of Busowoobi village in Iganga district rode on the back of a motorcycle manned by her only son Faisal Babalanda when the accident happened at midday on Sunday.
She reportedly jumped off the motorcycle on seeing that they were on a collision course with a truck at the Posta Bank roundabout. Unfortunately, she landed on the tarmac and the heavy truck ran over her, crashing her to death.
Her son battled tears as he parked the motorcycle on the side of the road and rushed to the body that lay in a pool of blood.
He desperately shook his lifeless mother almost hysterically until blood stained part of his maroon jacket, prompting by-standers to pull him away.
The deceased reportedly lost her husband Issa Babalanda in a road accident that occurred along Bunya road in Iganga early last month.
Dr. Siraji Kizito, the medical superintendent of Iganga hospital told New Vision that Namusobya was declared dead on arrival at the health facility.
“We did a post-mortem on the body and placed it in the mortuary awaiting collection by family or relatives,” he said.
Herbert Nuwagaba, Iganga district police chief confirmed that the truck driver had driven the vehicle to the police station after the incident and recorded a statement.
