MUBS head coach Charles Ayeko has said that Uganda Premier League coaches ignore promising talent at the University Football League, save for Sports Club Victoria University and Rwenshama football clubs.

Despite abundant talent at the games, no Uganda Premier League coaches have been sighted at the matches which Ayeko said is a sign of negligence.

“There is a lot of promising talents at the university league but coaches from the Premier League teams do not watch the games. Only Victoria (SCVU) has taken advantage to recruit from the league,” Ayeko who has specialised in handling junior teams noted.

In the first edition of the league, Sports Club Victoria University used national team tactician Micho Sredojevic to recruit Amuza Delu from MUBS, David Tumwesigye from Makerere, Siraje Musindo from Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

Although Micho has since backed off, SCVU continues to use a secret scout to stealthily pick the good players to avoid awakening their UPL colleagues.

By the end of last season, SCVU had recruited over 10 players including Yasser Mugerwa, Siraje Musindo, David Tumwesigye, Amuza Delu, Shaban Omara, Peter Otai and Muzamil Mutyaba from the University Football League. Many of the players now prominently feature on first teams of the UPL clubs.

Big League side Maroons is the other clubs which have taken advantage of talent from the league.
