Kabaka Mutebi's last surviving uncle dies

Prince David Ssimbwa, the younger brother of Sir Edward Mutesa, has died. Ssimbwa aged 80, died yesterday afternoon at Nakasero Hospital, Kampala where he had been admitted after suffering a heart attack.

Prince David Ssimbwa, the younger brother of Sir Edward Mutesa, has died. Ssimbwa aged 80, died yesterday afternoon at Nakasero Hospital, Kampala where he had been admitted after suffering a heart attack.

Speaking to New Vision, Buganda Kingdom spokesperson Denis Walusimbi Ssengendo who said Buganda regretted the death of Ssimbwa. 

“It is sad that Prince Ssimbwa has dead. He has not been well. He had been hospitalised. We shall feed you with details,” said Walusimbi.

Ssimbwa, who was the only surviving uncle of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi was born on March 21, 1934 to Daudi Cwa II and Erina Nambawa. He was raised in Lubiri, Mengo. He went to King’s College Budo

and later joined St Mary College, Kisubi. 

By the time of his death, he was a presidential adviser. 

The head princes in the Kingdom, Moses Kayima said the Kingdom has lost a great man.

"It is sad that we have lost such a talented man. We shall miss him. May his soul rest in peace," Kayima said.

Burial arrangements

There will be a funeral service on Monday at 11:00am at Namirembe Cathedral. Thereafter he will be laid to rest at Kasubi Tombs at 2:00pm, where his father was also buried. Starting Saturday, all Buganda Kingdom flags will fly at half-mast in his honour.
