Kampala International University (KIU), sports tutor Annet Kabasindi has convinced her team to compete in the third place playoff of the Nile Special University Football League.

The team had threatened to boycott the match due at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday in protest of the decision that ended their dream to play in the final.

UFL on Sunday announced that KIU had forfeited their second leg semi-final match to MUBS after their players walked off the pitch contrary to rules of the game and so relegated them to the third place playoff.

The match ended prematurely with MUBS leading 2-0 on aggregate when KIU fans stormed the pitch and refused to leave it after rowdy MUBS fans hit two of their players.

“We shall play the match but I was not contented with the decision against us even after we gave them (UFL) medical reports from Nsambya hospital to prove that six of our players were harmed by MUBS fans,” Kabasindi said.

“We have written to FUFA as the body running football in the country to look through the decision UFL made against us. It may not make a change now but it will be helpful in future,” she explained.

MUBS will face Kyambogo in the final of the competition while KIU take on Nkumba in third place playoff at 3pm and 1pm respectively. The Nile Special University Football League has up to sh13m of cash prizes for teams and individual winners to pick after the finals.

The champion will walk away with sh2.5m, first runners up will take sh1.5m while the winner of the third-place match will take sh1m.
