Sekajja shuns Uganda, wants England shirt

WHILE the Uganda Cranes always struggle with goal scoring problems, Ibra Sekajja fancies his chances of playing for the England team instead of the national team back home.

The 20-year old Crystal Palace striker, currently on loan to English League Two side Barnet FC, has told the club website that he is working hard to break into the senior England national team ranks.

Sekajja has already featured for England at youth level and hopes first team football at Barnet will lead him to fresh opportunities.

“I have not had a call up recently but I think that is down to me not playing very much first-team football.

“The England staff are always assessing players to come in at different levels but it is one of those things that can happen in an instant. You just have to make sure you are ready when called upon,” Sekajja said.

He has also featured in the Barclays U-21 Development League and believes that playing in League Two will make him a better player as he continues to forge his career.

Sekajja burst onto the scene when he scored an equaliser against Hull City with two minutes left on the clock on his professional football debut in 2011.

Sekajja has started two matches since arriving at Barnet under coach Edgar Davids drawing one and losing the other 1-0 over the weekend.
