Mityana district LC5 chairperson, Deborah Kyazike Kinobe has vowed not to vacate her office, saying the councillors did not follow legal procedure before suspending her.

Mityana district council had suspended Kinobe and her vice, Gabriel Busagwa, over alleged abuse of office.

Kinobe and Busagwa were on Thursday suspended during a council session at the district headquarters. The suspension follows the arrest of the two at Katwe Police Station on January 2, which the councillors say had tarnished the image of the district.

The two allegedly received a bribe of sh15m from one of the contractors who was bidding for a tender to construct a road in the district.

Since December, Busagwa has reportedly been out of office and did not even attend the council session on Thursday.

The meeting was called after the councillors petitioned the speaker, Aloysius Sserumaga, to give an explanation about Kinobe and Busagwa’s offences.

Ronald Keeya, the councillor representing Kalangaalo sub- county, presented a motion asking for an explanation of Kinobe’s arrest and why Busagwa was in hiding.

Sserumaga read a letter to the council explaining that Busagwa had not attended the meeting because he was sick.

At their arrest, Kinobe said, “The case is being investigated by the Police but it is only intended to tarnish my image.”

Richard Lumu, the councillor representing Ssekanyonyi sub-county was appointed the chairperson for the committee.

Israel Yiga, the chief administrative officer, said they would seek further guidance from the local government ministry on how to handle the matter.
