Flamboyant city businessman Andrew Kananura aka Desh was Thursday sent back to Luzira prison on fresh charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

Presiding over the case, Buganda Road court chief magistrate, Eleanor Khainza remanded Desh to Luzira saying that he did not ask for bail yet the case was ‘bailable’.

Speaking to New Vision outside court, Kananura’s lawyer revealed that he could not apply for bail because they were ambushed.

Geoffrey Nangumya said: “We were not ready to apply for bail because the State used an ambush on my client. It’s pure a civil matter. I wouldn’t comment any further but we shall defend him.”

Prosecution alleges that between November 16 and December 25 last year, the accused entered an agreement to sell and supply Sulait Semakula of Sema Properties Ltd a grader 140OG-Caterpillar at shs340,000,000.

According to prosecution, Desh entered this deal with intent to defraud and obtain money by false pretence.

The said machine [grader] was never supplied yet the money was issued to Desh. This hindered the work of the complainant on several sites since he is a property dealer.

Kananura is said to have deliberately refused to deliver the machine and instead went into hiding.

Mid-this month, he was arrested as key suspect in connection to the murder of his employee Badru Kateregga at Panamera bar.

Dressed in a multi-colored T-shirt, Kananura denied the charges before he was remanded to Luzira prison till January 29 this year.
