Elite athletes are set to get free medical treatment from one of the World’s leading sports medical outfits in Sienna, Italy, after the Uganda Athletics Federation signed a two-year medical agreement with Tuscany Sports Camp in Italy.

The camp will also be training a maximum of 15 Elite athletes to prepare them for the different international competitions.

Giambrone Giuseppe signed the memorandum on behalf of Tuscany, while Uganda Athletics Federation president, Domenic Otuchet signed  on behalf of the federation.

The agreement will offer full body conditioning and treatment of all athletes who are injured during the course of duty as a means of seeing them continue with their profession.

“In the past, we have had athletes who stopped running because of treatable injuries. This agreement will help out athletes run better. It will offer them secure training, and also encompass nutrition, medical and discipline, the cores of good performance,” said Otuchet.

The deal will also see the camp provide a medical doctor at every start of the season to medically check athletes.

Though the treatment will be free, the federation and athlete’s manager will have to ensure that they transport the athletes to Italy to benefit from the offer and also meet some extra expenses.

The camp started by treating Melbourne Commonwealth Games 10000m gold medallist Boniface Kiprop, who has been off the track for over five years due to a dislocated muscle.

“We first scan and then use the different scientific applications to ensure that the athletes gain the necessary fitness for them to compete,” explained Giuseppe about the different sports treatment.

Wilson Busienei and Boniface Kiprop have benefitted from such treatment.

Giuseppe, who is also an accredited Italian coach, will be training athletes as they prepare for international competitions.

He stood in as the national coach during the World Mountain Running, and World Half marathon championships.
