A policeman died on the spot and two others were seriously injured when a Highway Patrol vehicle on which they were travelling got involved in an accident with a FUSO truck.

It is not yet clear how the two vehicles ran into each other at Nkoba village along the Kampala-Masaka road.

But from the damage on the two vehicles, it is likely that the bigger one hit the smaller police Pick-up in the side.

Police is yet to make out the actual cause of the accident.

The accident occurred early Sunday morning at Nkoba near Lungala, about 60km on the Kampala-Masaka highway.true

Mpigi district traffic officer, Abdul Kadri Gamala named the deceased as Police Constable (PC) Walter Amwata.

His colleagues, Daniel Obita and James Opio survived with injuries and were rushed to Mulago hospital in Kampala for treatment.

The three were traveling atop a police truck, registration number UP 2605.

The truck was laden with matooke [green bananas] en route to Kampala from Masaka.

Gamala said the police were still investigating the cause of the accident and could therefore not tell yet who was in the wrong and what could have exactly caused the accident.

Both vehicles were towed to Mpigi police station. None of the FUSO truck’s occupants was injured.
