Golfers at the Uganda Golf Club and at Entebbe Club head to the course this weekend not only for their routine weekend rounds but also to raise funds for different causes.

Golfers at the Uganda Golf Club and at Entebbe Club head to the course this weekend not only for their routine weekend rounds but also to raise funds for different causes.


The Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organisation’s in conjunction with the Uganda Golf Club will on Friday have golfers participate in a one-day breast cancer fundraising golf tournament at Kitante.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for cancer awareness and counselling in major hospitals and cancer units across the country. Last year golfers raised sh24m from a similar initiative.

The funds are specifically used to produce educational materials, transport and allowances for health service providers during cancer screening camps.

After the Friday event, over 100 golfers will then head to Entebbe club for the Philly Lutaaya Golf Tournament on Saturday.

The one-day tournament has been organized by the UGU together with Philly Lutaaya Cares (PLC), an organization working on promoting collective responsibility for the struggle against HIV/AIDS. It will be held in celebration of 25 years of Philly Lutaaya's contribution to the HIV/AIDS fight in Uganda.

Entebbe Golf Club captain Oscar Semawere says the one-day fundraiser tournament will tee off at 10.00am with a short-gun start. 36 teams comprising of 4 players each and representing 28 sponsors are set to compete in the event.

Tezra Lutaya, daughter to the late Philly Lutaaya and founder member of PLC said that several sponsors including Tullow Oil, Standard Chartered Bank, MAAD Advertising, Case Medical Center, City Tyres, Nile Breweries Ltd,Media World Production, Kampala Casino, Blink Logistics, SPEDAG Interfreight, DHL, Ernest & Young, SMART Telecom, Fenon Studio, Uganda AIDS Commission have fielded teams for the charity event.
