TOP seed Lillian Zawedde leads university woodball team of eight athletes to Perlis, Malaysia as they plot to improve their performance at the fourth edition of the World University Championship starting on Tuesday.
Uganda who didn’t take part at the previous event in 2012 due to lack of funds, will be looking towards bettering her performance in relation to the 2010 edition that was hosted at Munyonyo where they finished third overall.
The team that started residential training on Monday at Ndejje University under the guidance of George Isabirye flies out this evening for the week-long competition running October 21-26.
Zawedde, who has featured at all editions is confident the team will triumph at the championship.
“After acquiring some skills from the world cup and the training we have done, we are confident and hope to return with good results,” Zawedde said during the final team training.
Apart from Franco Kibuule and Herbert Magezi, the other members on the team who include Joel Adupa, Ronald Kawumba, Bruno Bbosa, Joan Mukoova, Viola Operu and Charity Nagaba represented Uganda at the 6th Woodball World Cup in Sanya, China last month.
The team of four men and women that have been undergoing two weeks of non-residential training under head coach George Isabirye departs today evening.
