Robin Kasoma just can’t wait for Uganda’s first equestrian competition to happen.

“I have this amazing feeling that something great is about to happen,” said the Flametree Stables manager of the inaugural Equator Cup at Kijabijo, Gayaza.

As manager, Kasoma will be one of those in charge of the two-day event that has drawn 30 riders. But the man who has been with the horses for 14 years, will this time have even more to offer.

He will be one of the riders. Kasoma’s anxiousness to show Ugandans what he has to offer is almost palpable.

“It is going to be fun. I want Ugandans to come and see that we can also ride and do amazing things with horses.” The event is free.
Kasoma noted that equally excited, are the horses and ponies.

“They (horses and ponies) are also excited and looking healthy. They have also been practicing well.”

Riding Pinocchio, Kasoma will be displaying his skills alongside another Ugandan Jackson Adriko.

Adriko will be riding Ying in the event that also has entries from Cameroon, Kenya, France, Great Britain and New Zealand.

It will be an action packed weekend with competition running from 9.30am to 5pm on saturday. The program starts at 9.30am the following day and ends at 2pm.

Equator Catering and Sadolin Paints are the sponsors of the competition whose proceeds will go towards a charity
for autistic children.

Spectators will be treated to a rare mix of children and adult competition.

Event organiser Miranda Bowser said more events are planned for the future. These will include a show at Kyadondo Rugby Club next year.
