Business is at a standstill following the closure of the imposing Mabirizi Plaza on Kampala Road.

Hundreds of traders are stranded after the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) closed the Complex over lack of a building occupation permit.

Several traders arrived Wednesday morning to open their shops for business, only to find KCCA enforcement officials had placed seals on the entrances to the shopping arcade.

Traders who talked to The New Vision complained that they had received no prior notification of closure from KCCA, and neither had they received a word from the management of Mabirizi Complex.

The closure comes amidst family wrangles stemming from alleged mismanagement of the late Godfrey Mabirizi's estate by his heir, Stuart Mabirizi.

In a letter dated October 1, 2014 Evelyn Namale Mabiriizi, daughter of the late city tycoon Mabirizi submitted to the High Court on October 6, she accuses Stuart Mabiriizi, his mother and others of running down the family estate.

Namale accuses the heir, his mother together with his other siblings of indulging in luxuries like expensive cars while failing to honour bank loans well knowing they are indebted to a tune of sh33b.

Bukedde newspaper in its Sunday issue reported that among other indulgencies, Namale accuses Stuart of purchasing a Range Rover Sport, a luxurious machine to a tune of over sh300m and his mother a sh90m BMW, well knowing they are heavily indebted.

Mabirizi passed away in February this year having succumbed to high blood pressure.
