Nemostars VC coach Anthony Ndawula has predicted a tougher competition for his team as he eyes his third league title with the Kololo side this year.

Nemostars men are lined up with former champions Sport-S, KAVC and Nkumba volleyball clubs in the playoffs that start at MUBS Arena this weekend and Ndawula acknowledged that his players will need to 'rise to the occasion' because competition in the league has also risen.

"There was a time when only one team dominated the league, then there were two teams recently and certainly this year no team is a clear favourite. It will be about how you withstand the challenge to play your game," Ndawula warned.

His worry stems from the fact that Nemostars VC wound up the regular volleyball league with losses and 'degradingly' lost the UCU Open championship when they failed to get out the group stage over the weekend.

They were walked over by little known Cobap because their players turned up late for the game.

Nemostars play Sport-S in their first leg of the play-offs on Saturday and Ndawula said that they need an extra effort to win the clash to keep focus on retaining the volleyball league title.

In the other men's fixture KAVC take on Nkumba VC. The women's play-off will see Vision VC take on UCU while Nkumba face defending champions Ndejje.

All the return legs will be on October 18 and the two legged best of five finals for both men and women begin on October 25. There will also be playoff games for teams seeking promotion to Serie A Old Kampala, Jinja VC, Cobap and Tigers VC next season.
